Wardlaw Porteous Trophy
Golden Bears Basketball MVP
The Wardlaw Porteous Trophy is awarded annually to the most valuable Golden Bears basketball player.
Born in 1907, Wardlaw Porteous was Acting Head of the Faculty 1944–1947 and a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering. He became a full Professor in 1955. Very involved with the development of local radio, Porteous co-founded CKUA radio. Earlier, in 1939–1940, he designed and installed stations’ transmission expansion facilities. He passed away in 1968, at which time the Bears Basketball MVP award was named in his honour.
