Organization

Membership

As in the past, the Senate is comprised of elected and appointed members. Hailing from diverse backgrounds, members of the Senate are intended to represent our society. All members are volunteers. To become a member, the individual must express care and respect for the University and the work it does to serve the community. Members agree to spend time working to further the work of the University.

Ex-officio members of the Senate are the Chancellor, President, Vice-President (Academic & Provost), Dean of Extension, Dean of Student Services, and the President and Vice-President of the Alumni Association.

There are 30 elected members of the public, representing colleges, institutions, geographical areas, and groups with an interest in the University. Nine members of the public and two members of the Non-Academic Staff Association are appointed by the Minister of Learning.  The Board of Governors appoints two members. Three members are appointed from the General Faculties Council. Two are appointed from the Deans’ Council and two from the Alumni Association. Four students are appointed by the Students’ Union and one student by the Graduate Students’ Association. The work of the Senate is coordinated by support staff, including an Executive Officer.
