Since opening its doors in 1908, the University of Alberta has emerged as a world class institution of higher learning. The achievements of the university’s students and alumni have enabled the University to grow in stature. The pioneering accomplishments and innovations of the university’s illustrious students have contributed significantly to the social, cultural, technological and economic development of Alberta, and the world.

The University of Alberta’s primary role is to help students develop to their fullest potential. A university education opens doors to enormous opportunity and enriches our understanding of ourselves, our community, and the world in which we live.

The celebrated students and graduates of the University of Alberta have made numerous impressive contributions for future generations. From authors and filmmakers like W.O. Mitchell and Anne Wheeler, to the inspirational achievements of J. Wilton Littlechild and Beverley McLachlin, the university has produced an array of diverse and exceptional individuals.

The work of outstanding mentors continues to draw students from around the world to the University of Alberta. Drawn to the university campus community for its ability to prepare them for their later lives and careers, the engineers of the future continue to originate from the bustling halls, classrooms, libraries and laboratories of the University of Alberta.
