Catherine Fraser

The Honourable Catherine A. Fraser, 1970 LLB, Chief Justice of Alberta and the Northwest Territories, has been the chief justice of Alberta's highest court, the Court of Appeal, since 1992 and prior to that, was a justice of the Court of Appeal and of the Court of Queen's Bench.

Chief Justice Fraser is firmly committed to ensuring that the public interest is well served by the justice system. As chair of the Education Committee of the Canadian Judicial Council and as a member of the Council's Special Committee on Equality in the Courts, she has supported efforts to provide continuing judicial education on social justice issues for all judges in Canada. A leader in the community, she has been recognized with a YWCA Tribute to Women Award.

Fraser is a 1996 recipient of the University of Alberta Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award.
