Provincial Awards for Excellence in Research

Islet Transplantation Group

Alberta has numerous foundations and organizations that promote cutting-edge research. They recognize the high calibre of University of Alberta researchers by honouring them with awards. These provincial institutions also provide funding that allows members of the University of Alberta's research teams to continue their excellent research and innovation.

The Alberta Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE) operates grant programs to develop iCORE chairs at Alberta universities. The University of Alberta has twelve research chairs around whom world-class research teams develop.

The Alberta Science and Technology (ASTech) Leadership Foundation was created to celebrate the achievements and excellence of Alberta's science and technology community. Alberta's best research and technology people are honoured at a yearly gala awards ceremony.

The Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) was established to promote health science research in Alberta. It provides funding programs to scholars of all ages, from high school students to established research professors. Many University of Alberta researchers have won funding from AHFMR.

The Alberta Ingenuity Fund supports science and engineering research of the highest calibre and has developed a number of awards programs which help maintain the competitiveness of Alberta's universities, colleges, and technical institutes and encourage Alberta to remain a scientific leader.
