Alberta Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE)

The Alberta Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE) was established in October 1999 by the Government of Alberta to foster an expanding community of exceptional researchers in the field of informatics. iCORE operates grant programs to develop chairs at Alberta universities around which world-class research teams develop.

iCORE invests in the highest calibre research scientists who work on fundamental and applied problems in informatics in areas related to information and communications technology such as computer science, electrical and computer engineering, physics, and mathematics.

Since iCORE's inception, more than 24 research chairs have been established to focus on areas in which Alberta companies are active such as networks and communications, high-performance computing, human and computer interfaces, intelligent information systems, software systems, and new architectures and devices.

As of 2007, the University of Alberta has twelve iCORE chairs. These researchers truly represent some of the most cutting-edge research happening in Canada.
