Engineering's Newest Research Chair- Dr. Robert Burrell
Dr. Robert Burrell was named a Canada Research Chair in Nanostructured Biomaterials in 2003. In the past fifteen years, Burrell has been involved in the design of more than fifteen medical processes and products and has been named as the inventor on more than thirty U.S. patents. In 1995, he made an important breakthrough in dressing design using nanocrystalline silver technology. His invention, Acticoat, is a silver-based wound dressing that has antimicrobial properties and speeds healing. The dressing is often used in burn units and is now sold around the world.
